Bonn - Germany, 30 june 2004
Iggy Pop swinging on the Stooges beat
2004 a dream came true, The Stooges playing live for the first time since the mid '70's! And even doing a small
European Tour, well I had to be there, for me this band was GOD times 4!
With Mike Watt filling in for the sadly departed original bassplayer it was one of the tightest bands I've ever seen.
wahwah & fuzz-meister Ron Asheton ripped into the most intense guitar riffs in the history of r'n'r while his
brother Scott Asheton delivered the most swinging Bo Didley beats ever. Forget all the new rawk bands like:
White Stripes, Hives, Datsuns, etc. This is the real stuff! Since I saw Radio Birdman rock the roof of a little venue last year (sorry, no photo's), only a Black Flag reunion can top this, but I think that will never happen.....

The Stooges drive the crowd insane!

Iggy on one of his quite moments before the Stooges rip it up!
Iggy's subtile way to tell you to fuck of if you don't dance to the Stooges beat!
Sing "No Fun" assholes, sing it!!!!
Iggy doing his microphone acrobatics!
The Stooges meisters of the blitzkriegrock!!!!

and Steve McKay (Sax, sorry not on this pic)

THE STOOGES
One of the most influencial bands, from punk to grunge and rock to hardcore, every band in these genres ows something to the Stooges. Formed in 1968 they were one of the first punkbands. Together with the Sonics, Monks, MC5, Link Wray, Seeds, Velvet Underground, Radio Birdman, Misunderstood and 1000s of other garagepunkbands, from the 60's untill now, they infected millions of kids with the most dangerous virus of all: Rock'n'roll. Born in the sixties myself, it was a dream that would never come true to see my favorite band of all time play live. Reports of a reunion show at the Coachella Festival in the desert near Palm Springs CA made me a bit hopefull and then some European dates were announced. I couldn't be more happy! And I was twice lucky since I work freelance for a german musicmagazine so I didn't had to worry about sleeping at some shady ticketoffice to get tickets.
June the 30th 2004 in Bonn Germany was my personal D-day. And I was on a mission. To get some pics, just for myself, to stare at when I'm old, thinking back of this dream coming true. A very hard mission, since music like this wants to make me rip it up, trash the pit, or just simply said: go wild!
From the first riff of "Loose", the opening song, I knew it was gonna be a hard task. Man, this band was rocking hard. I've seen Iggy shows before, but I never saw a bigger smile on his face before, playing with his old mates. And the look in his eyes, it was magic! The audience was wild, I saw men with tears in their eyes, mothers and daughters together in the moshpit and every song was welcomed with deafening screaming. In my excitment , I forgot to arrange a photopass. So I wasn't allowed to take pictures between the barrier and the stage. Well that was fine with me at that time. I was in the crowd, right in front of the stage. People jumping, pogoing and stagediving. And I loved it, feeling like I was 18 again, trashing at a Dead Kennedys or Black Flag concerts.
I shot two rolls of film, often holding the camera over my head, not in control of focus, exposure and apparture. Just like the old days!
When they came back for an encore, I gave the camera to my wife and joined the happy crowd in the moshpit and got bruised, beaten up, stepped on....
But I was happy like I was never before.
To quote Iggy: "Here are the f*cking Stooges, f*cking dance! Motherf*ckers!!!!!"

I love these men!
