"Indeed, some of our soldiers asked whether it was not all a dream. It is not surprising therefore that I should write in this vein. It was all so wonderful that I do not know how to describe this first glimpse of things never heard of, seen or dreamed of before.”

Bernal Diaz del Castillo, 16th-century Spanish historian and a chief chronicler of the Spanish conquest of Mexico

Becan is one of the lesser know Maya sites in the Yucatan peninsula. Together with Chicana (wich we couldn't visit because of a sudden thunderstorm) it is small and only partly excavated.
If you come early (it is an easy drive from Campeche and next to Chicana is an eco-resort).
Standing on top of a pyramide and in seeing building up a thunderstorm in a couple of minutes was one of the highlights of our trip. Although it isn't advised to be as stupid as us (you're on the highest point in a flat jungle) and the storm cost us our Chicana visit, it gave us some spectacular photo's...

We hope you agree...
