In october 2003 we got on a cheap flight to Napoli to catch some Italian autumn sun and some culture.

But damn, a week is really to short to visit all of the highlights of Napoli and its surroundings!

Napoli is working hard to get over its old bad name as a dirty city full of pickpocketteers. And they are doing a great job! Some parts of the old town are a bit dirty, but you can walk the streets savely every time of the day!

Besides the beautyfull castles of Napoli, the narrow but lively streets it is also the town that is an ideal base for excursions to the great Roman Heritage of the mediterian. Who doesn't know the story of the Vesuvian vulcan that swallowed the Roman town of Pompeii?
But another, and by far greater archeolical site is the historical town of Herculaneum. The town surfvived the outburst of the Vesuvius a lot better, so most of the buildings look like they where left a couple of years ago.

If you want to go Island hopping, the harbor of Napoli offers cheap ferry trips to the Islands of the bay. The most famous is Capri, but we desided to stay away from this toursit trap and payed a visit to Issia. With its old castle and rural fishertown it makes a great day trip. You can even find some pubs that have Guiness!!!!!!!!!
